First impressions are quick and lasting – façade entrances are no different!

May 8, 2020 | News

We have all heard this line before. First impressions are made quickly and are long lasting. This saying is no truer than when it comes to your homes front façade.

The entrance of your home is the first and last thing people see when entering and leaving. Your home should give visitors a sense of your character and style. So what do you need to consider when making colour choices for your homes façade.

Check your exterior façade and home design

Look at the established colours. This includes things such as the roof, gutters and window frames (unless you are planning on changing or updating these items) – think about how these colours will work with what you want to do? Colours do not necessarily have to match, but should work well together. Look at the style of your home. Is it modern, historic or a mix of both?

Head over to the neighbours

What is everyone else doing on the street. Do you want to compliment your neighbours or stand out from the pack?

Consider where you live

Is your home located on a busy street or nestled in away in a bush retreat? Do you need materials to reduce noise and aid in soundproofing, or keep it open and capitalise on beautiful scenery?

Do you have overhead cover?

Overhead cover – like a veranda to shelter the façade will also play a crucial role. Overhead cover not only protects the front of your home from rain, but can also shield the exterior facade from the suns harsh UV rays; allowing you to expand your choice of material.

Timber doors, panelling, eaves and framing have proven to be a popular choice for homes owner’s facades. Without some form of overhead cover and exterior paint protection these features can quickly degrade. (insert link to exterior QTF products)

How many colours?

Colours can help define your home’s personality. Using three colours is the general rule of thumb for selecting an exterior colour scheme. Although for a cohesive colour palette use no more than five colours throughout your home (e.g. a white, neutral and 3 colours). Take a look at our colour range to help you get started

To stain or not to stain

If you are planning on adding timber elements to the facade, or your home has existing timber features that need to be revived – what should you consider? Timber will absorb stains differently based on application and type of (timber) species. The final results can leave you ecstatic or questioning your colour choice? To avoid disappointment, test the stain on a discrete section of the timber to ensure you get the look you are after – don’t forget to prepare your timber first!
