Bentleigh Secondary College

The Meditation and Indigenous Centre at Bentleigh Secondary College has been designed to educate students about the environment through sustainable building design.

Designed by architects dwpsuters and built by Dzine Construction Group, the centre has been predominately constructed from 85% renewable timber and has been designed to act as a piece of furniture amongst the landscape.

As the sustainability of the finishes used in the project was important, QUANTEC Wood Preservative was chosen to coat the silvertop ash cladding. Made from natural bio-based oils QUANTEC acts as a penetrative wood preservative when applied.

Using QUANTEC ensured that the coating would last longer than traditional oils or clear treatments which means less maintenance of the centre, further reducing the impact on the environment. The timber will silver over time but will remain protected by the coating.
